The History of Windy Harbour Holiday Park
For many, many years, Windy Harbour has been a natural waypoint on the Fylde Coast.
In Roman times, the area at and around Windy Harbour was used as a fording point over the river Wyre, providing a lifeline to the farming community of Out Rawcliffe and supplying the Roman garrison, billeted at Kirkham.
Around 1900, day trips were the order of the day and many a party were destined for Windy Harbour.
Visitors would make the two-hour trip on horse drawn char'-a-bancs regularly from Blackpool, enjoying the unique country atmosphere and to take high tea, at the quaint Windy Harbour Farmhouse.
Following the end of the Second World War, leisure activities took over as a much-needed alternative to rationing and shortages.
Camping and days out had really taken off Windy Harbour Farm and as a result of this popularity, Windy Harbour Caravan Park was born in 1950. Since that period and under the same family ownership.
Windy Harbour has gradually developed into one of the finest country holiday parks on the Fylde coast.
